RESPONSE TO BOB DUFF’S HATE FILLED OP ED OF JANUARY 6, 2023

RESPONSE TO BOB DUFF’S HATE FILLED OP ED OF JANUARY 6, 2023

By: John Miller

Just to be clear, what happened at the US Capitol on January 6, 2021 was a national disgrace, should never have happened and those who participated violated Title 18 U.S. Code Subsection 2383 (Rebellion or insurrection). Period…full stop. To date, 978 people have been charged with federal crimes and charges are pending on approximately 250 more. It should also be noted that Congress reconvened after an approximately four-hour delay and certified the election. In the end, the process worked as intended.

That being said, Mr. Duff’s hate filled screed in The Hour of January 6 is also a disgrace. It employs the same kind of mindless, Saul Alinsky inspired political rhetoric (election deniers, anti-Semites, racists, armed thugs, conspiracy groupies, anti-vaxxers, professional liars, MAGA extremists) that the Democrats have been using since the 1960’s to broad brush entire segments of the electorate and divide the country.

Let’s take a us look at some of these:

Election Deniers: Is there a bigger serial election denier than Hillary Clinton? And what about the 38 Democrats who refused to certify the 2004 Presidential election because they claimed that the election machines in Ohio changed the votes from Kerry to Bush?

Anti-Semites: This is novel! Are there any two people on the planet who are more anti-Semitic than Ilhan Omar (D-Mich) and Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich)?  What about the Democratic race baiting “Reverend” who was running for president a while back and referred to New York City as “Hymie Town?” And let’s not forget Whoopie on “The View.”

Racists:  This is the Gold Standard of Democratic identity politics and, these days, it applies to every Caucasian on the Planet! At some point the Democrats will have to figure out that you are not going to eliminate discrimination on the basis of race by discriminating on the basis of race.

Conspiracy groupies: After four years of “Russia, Russia, Russia” you cannot be serious Bob!

Professional Liars: “Blue Collar” Joe Biden has been a serial liar for his entire career. He lied about being first in his class in law school and was on a full scholarship when he was actually in the bottom third of his law school class. Lied about being arrested during the civil rights movement when that didn’t happen. Had to drop out of the 1988 campaign for president when it was revealed that he plagiarized some of his speeches and lied about his academic record. He even lied about the accident that took the life of his wife and one year old daughter, which is beyond the pale. His most current whoppers include claims that the border is closed and secure. I’ve got a call in to “Corn Pop” to corroborate.

Replacement theory: This is a more recent pejorative being used by the Democrats to suggest that Republicans do not believe in immigration because it will replace white Republicans with minority Democrats.  Here’s a news flash Bob: Republicans whole heartedly believe in legal immigration that complies with the provisions of Title 8 of the United States Code but, unfortunately, that’s not what is happening right now.

Here’s another little factoid about what’s going on at our Southern border right now, Bob. The CDC recently reported that 107,622 Americans died from drug overdoses in 2021, most of which were from fentanyl coming across our Southern border complements of the Mexican drug cartels (with the raw materials coming from China). That’s more people than died during the entire ten-year duration of the Vietnam War (58,281)!

Now for the local stuff. A recent report from The Yankee Institute revealed that Connecticut’s total Bonded and Unfunded Retirement debt is currently $67 billion, which equates to $50,700 per taxpayer.

You and your Democratic colleagues in Hartford just love spending other peoples money Bob (e.g. The Duff mahal on the corner of County Street and Strawberry Hill Avenue)

Finally, have you been to the grocery store lately Bob. Pretty expensive for the average Norwalker.

We’ll be watching to see if you and your colleagues are going to be a help or a hinderance.

BOB DUFF’S ARTICLE

A year ago on these pages, I wrote about the one-year anniversary of the Jan. 6, 2021 attack on America by Donald Trump’s violent, treasonous mob. I warned that our country was on the brink of disaster, and that we, as Americans, had to be watchful and resolved enough to vote in November 2022 as if our Constitution and the fate of our nation depended on it.

I am overjoyed to tell you (as you now know) that we won. The predicted “Red Wave” of election deniers, anti-Semites, racists, armed thugs, conspiracy groupies, anti-vaxxers, professional liars and MAGA extremists crashed and burned on Election Day in spectacular fashion.

In its place, America experienced a “Red, White and Blue Wave” that rejected the extremist threat to our democracy and a Republican campaign focused on gas prices and instead embraced the outrage of the Supreme Court’s Roe v. Wade decision and the common decency of Joe Biden.

Just look at Arizona for proof of America’s rejection of rabid, red-meat Republican politics. Election denier Kari Lake for governor? Gone. Election denier Blake Masters for U.S. Senate? Gone. Election denier Mark Finchem for secretary of state? Gone. Proposition 309 demanding more stringent voter ID laws? Defeated. And this was in a state with 166,000 more Republican voters than Democrats!

The Republican lies of 2020, 2021 and 2022 about stolen elections and replacement theory and ballot mule theory and Rothschild space laser theory (Republicans have a lot of theories) sent a strong message to voters this year: don’t trust us. We’re a bit off. We can talk a good game about imaginary child sex trafficking rings, but don’t ask us about the future of Medicare and Social Security. You won’t like our answers.

So, 2022? We didn’t just dodge a bullet, we dodged a 155mm howitzer shell aimed squarely at the U.S. Capitol and our Constitution. That’s the good news.

The bad news? The 2024 presidential election is right around the corner, and Donald Trump is not only still the head of America’s Republican Party, he is also — according to polls — among the Republican frontrunners for president.

If you’ve already packed away your “Resist” car magnet and your “Roevember” lawn sign, I beg you to reconsider. After all, World War II was only nine months old when Sir Winston Churchill delivered his famous “we shall fight on the beaches, we shall never surrender” speech to an embattled Great Britain. That war wouldn’t end for another five years. America has a ways to go until it’s out of the woods, too.

Need proof? How about Donald Trump’s recent dinner with two antisemites. Or Donald Trump’s call for “the termination of all rules, regulations, and articles, even those found in the Constitution” because he lost the 2020 presidential election. Republican Congressman Paul Gosar’s stated support for Trump disemboweling our Constitution. Republican Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Green’s recent boast to Young Republicans that if she had been in charge of the Jan. 6 insurrection, it would have been successful — and much more deadly.

This is what we’re still up against, folks. I’m sorry to tell you. Not every Republican is a MAGA Republican, but those who are MAGA extremists are still in control of the Republican Party right now.

There is hope, however. November 2022 was a great dress rehearsal for November 2024. We nailed it. The voters loved us. We got rave reviews. Now, we just have to remain “watchful and resolved” for another two years to succeed once again in what may be one of the most pivotal elections in American history. But I know that we can do this, because the future of America depends on us. Let’s stay strong for America!

Bob Duff, a Democrat from Norwalk, is the state senate majority leader.
